Update!

HELLO!

Apologies for my absences in posts the past few weeks. I went on a trip to Mendoza, then finals, then family and finally a trip to the end of the world.  I have made back to the U.S. safe and sound and will be writing more often and changing the content of posts a bit. BUT first, I have a few thousand photos from trips which will make their appearance here very soon. As just a preview – Mountains and the Beagle Channel!

Uruguay Revisited

(ER-OO-GWHY)

I was planning on taking a second trip to Uruguay before leaving South America but its looking like it won’t work out. Instead I decided to take a second trip through my photographs. Still looks beautiful to me. The countryside and the light is irresistible, so here are a few more views of it along with some other out of the bus window snapshots. Trip to Mendoza this weekend so look for photos from there very soon!

Green vs. Grey

(REY-SER-VA  ECO-LAW-GE-CO)

The Reserva Ecológico Costenera Sur is a massive piece of land on the edge of Buenos Aires between Puerto Madero and the Rio de la Plata. It seems odd to think you are still in the same city but that seems to be one of the many wonders of Buenos Aires, how different it look and feel. But to be able to walk along the edge of a marsh and only hear the crunching of stones beneath your feet while sky scrapers loom off not too far in the distance is a very nice break from the city. The air feels salty instead instead of grimy and much more fresh. Here are some images from my walk.

Barrio: Puerto Madero

(PWER-TO MAH-DAR-O)

It’s hard to walk around Buenos Aires without seeing construction. But much of the construction is repairing old buildings or remodeling so to walk around the newest barrio of Puerto Madero and see beautifully designed, sleek modern style is striking. It almost feels like you’ve walked into a different city – but at the same time feels no less of the porteños. Everything seems to blend in as well here where luxury is abundant as it does in San Telmo, one of the oldest areas of Buenos Aires. Parts of the Rio de La Plata come through next to the big brick buildings that remind visiters of the history of Puerto Madero as an trade center gone to waste and now completely revitalized. The beautiful gray day along the Puerto with boats remind me of Copenhagen but so different and unique – it was great. Please enjoy!

This last one here is the recently constructed bridge, Puente de la Mujer, designed by Santiago Calatrava, intended to represent the woman dancing the tango.

Polo in Pilar

(PE-LAHR)

Not too long ago, a few people from the program and I went on a trip to see a polo match in Pilar, Argentina. Only about and hour and a half a way, Pilar is small town filled with places to play this Argentine tradition. Internationally, Argentina is one of the best countries in polo and it was amazing to see it in action. Here are some photos from the trip including the beautiful estancia and polo club house. Enjoy!

Earth Day!

In honor of Earth Day yesterday, I went to the Jardin de las Rosas and gave up all my silly notions of artistic photography and just took some good old fashioned flower pictures. Its nice every once in a while just to enjoy something pretty. So here they are! I hope everyone else had a nice Earth day and found a way to appreciate Earth’s natural beauty.

At the Races

(IP-O-DRO-MO)

In this giant city that is Buenos Aires you can find just about anything, aside from choice vegetables, spicy things and ziploc bags- you  even horses. There is a horse track literally in the middle of the city. A bit away from my barrio Palermo is the Hipodromo Argentino de Palermo where there are frequent horse races open to the public. Whether you are there to bet or just to enjoy the race, its an interesting sight full of porteños and elderly men clad in khakis and cardigans alike. Here are a few images, enjoy-

Vuelvo!

Hello! Apologies for the huge lack of posts over the past month. I had a special visitor, my wonderful boyfriend Nate and it was hard to find time for posts! Then came midterms and spring break. BUT here are a few photos from Nate’s visit around Buenos Aires and Tigre. The city of Tigre is just a few peso train ride away and is located right along the delta of the Rio Tigre. Its an interesting city with a lot to see right along the river. Please enjoy these photos from Tigre and elsewhere, there will be more to come!

Remembered In Stone

(RE-CO-LETA)

Buenos Aires is home to millions of people and almost as many deceased found in the Cementerio de la Recoleta. It would easy to spend hours walking through this cemetery. Streets are lined with mausoleums to the rich, powerful, famous and important. The incredible sense of reverence for the dead present here is not something that one encounters often. Walking through the Cementerio,  I saw this reverence in the monuments so here they are in stone.
